ASA!
So this week, we have been learning the basics of matrix operations. Can we add any two matrices? Are there any rules that go along with adding matrices? Can we multiply any two matrices? Are there any rules that go along with multiplying matrices? When multiplying matrices, how do we determine the size of the final matrix?
Are you having a hard time understanding matrices? What advice can you give to your classmates to help them with computing matrix operations?
Remember: We answer discussion questions in paragraph form with complete sentences.

No you can't add any two matrices they have to have the same dimension. No you can't multiply any two matrices either the number of columns in the first matrix has to match the number of rows in the second matrix. To determine the size of the final matrix you use however many number of rows in the first matrix by the number of columns in the second matrix.
ReplyDeleteIt Is no Buenos which mean not good(Spanish see what I did there)so you can't add two matrices that are not matrices like a 2x3 and a 3x2 but you can always add a 2x2 and a 2x2 these are the rules.Yes you can multiply two matrices the rules is you have to multiply the row by columns and you determine the final matrix by you have to use the rows in the first matrix by the columns in the second matrix exp.a 2x2 matrix multiplied by a 2x3 matrix would be a 2x3 matrix and I do understand matrices we should get more quizzes dealing with it to help others Asa Thank you for listening
ReplyDeleteNo, you cant just add any 2 matrices because it will not have a solution. In order to add 2 matrices their column and row number must be the same. You also cannot multiply any 2 matrices, the rule is as well for multiplying 2 matrices. When multiplying 2 matrices in orer to determine the final dimensions, eliminating the matching numbers for row and column of the 2, the numbers that are left are the new deminsions of the matrix. For example, 2x3 and 3x2. The column and row of would be 3 from tha first matrix and 3 from the second matrix. (They are always supposed to be the same number). What ever numbers are left from each matrix is your new dimension, which is 2x2.
ReplyDeleteIm not having a hard time understanding matrices. I think it is pretty plain and simple. At first i was a little confused but i got the hang of it when i did the hw. To help my classmates if they dont understand i can say to just go to office hours more, and study the material harder and pay alot more attension in class time, and ask question in class to make sure they understand everything being taught.
No you cant add any two numbers, the rule is if you want to add them they have to have the same dimension. For example if you have a 2x3 matrix then in order to add it the other matrix has to be 2x3. No you can not add any two matrices, the column in the first dimension has to be the same in the second dimension row. For example you can multiply 2x3 and a 3x1 because the column in the first dimension is the same as the row in the second dimension. In order to determine the final matrix you take the row of the first dimension by the column in the second row. For example if you have a 4x2 and a 2x2 your final matrix is going to be a 4x2.
ReplyDeleteYes i completely understand matrices, and in order for our classmated to undersand they should do extra studying and classwork!

DeleteNo, you cannot add any two matrices, they must have the same dimensions. Yes, you add the numbers that are on the same side of each matrix. No you cannot multiply any two matrices, they must have the column of the first matrix matching the rows of the second matrix. The size is determined by row of the first matrix and the column of the second matrix.
ReplyDeleteNo, you cant just add any two matrices because the rules says they both have to have the same dimensions in order for you to add them. When your multiplying matrices you cant just multiply them, the column of the first matrix must match the rows of the second matrix. In order to determine the final matrix when multiplying you have to see the number of rows in the first matrix and the number of columns in the second matrix. No I'm not having a hard time with matrices and I think if any of my classmates are having a hard time with this topic then they should go to office hours and do extra practice on their own.
ReplyDeleteTo add or subtract matrices, you have to operate on their corresponding elements. In other words, you add or subtract the first row/first column in one matrix to or from the exact same element in another matrix. The two matrices must have the same dimensions; otherwise, an element in one matrix won't have a corresponding element in the other.
ReplyDeleteAnswer: You can multiply two matrices if, and only if, the number of columns in the first matrix equals the number of rows in the second matrix. Otherwise, the product of two matrices is undefined. The product matrix's dimensions are
→(rows of first matrix) × (columns of the second matrix ).
Matrices are often referred to by their sizes. The size of a matrix is given in the form of a dimension, much as a room might be referred to as "a ten-by-twelve room". The dimensions for a matrix are the rows and columns, rather than the width and length.
no you can not multiply two matrices, it is only possible when the number of columns in the first matrix equal to the number of row in the second.only add the matrices that have the same dimension. the dimensions determines the size of the matrix.you determine the final matrix when multiplying by looking at the the row on the first one and he column on the second one. (sorry we had to get are internet was not working yesterday we just got it fixed this morning).
ReplyDeleteNo, we cannot add any two matrices, they must be the dimensions in order to do so. Yes, there is a rule to adding matrices and that rule is: In order to add 2 matrices their column and row number must be the same. No, we also cannot multiple any two matrices because; the rule is the same as when you’re adding two matrices. When multiplying two matrices in order to determine the final dimensions, eliminating the matching numbers for row and column of the 2, the numbers that are left are the new dimensions of the matrix. No, I am not having a hard time understanding matrices, I believe this is the easiest thing, thus far! I would tell my fellow classmates to ALWAYS DOUBLE AND EVEN TRIPLE CHECK because, when dealing with matrices you have to make sure everything is where it is suppose to be, like all the numbers are punched in right, otherwise, it will throw off your whole problem. I would also tell them to make sure they COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND AND KNOW THE RULES! If you know the rules, then it is only a matter of substitution, making things easier and less complicated.
ReplyDeleteASA! Sis.Ashley, I was been trying to submit my disccusion answer but, for some reason the internet kept on messing up and my dad said, it has been messing up alot lately so, yea like Amirah said we just got it fixed this morning
